Edinburgh Adventist Primary School is situated on a gently sloping north-facing hillside in the Yarra Ranges. The existing classroom buildings are sited half way up the slope while the new buildings are located on the lower part, providing the school with a new public facade and greater visual presence from the road.
A large established oak tree provides a focal point for the school entry; the feature rammed earth wall of the multipurpose building curves around the south side of the tree and the volume of the administration building defines this outdoor space as the main access to the school. A series of low retaining walls, seating steps and ramps further define new outdoor learning areas and connect the different levels of the school site. Internally, the design embraces flexibility, with physical links and visual flow inside and out of the administration, staff and library spaces.
