Established in 1963, Nunawading Christian College consists of a primary and secondary school which work together. This project focuses on the refurbishment of part of the existing primary school building which contains general purpose classrooms for Prep to Year 6, an Art/Craft/Music/Dance classroom and toilets. The new modern learning environment and facilities for Prep to Year 2 has ensured a better learning culture and enhanced academic performance.
The project was approached with the intention to apply Environmentally Sustainable Design holistically and as a form of education. This approach was applied to decisions made during planning, design development, documentation and construction. The architecture follows proven passive and active ESD principles to provide higher levels of comfort and wellbeing to the users and to reduce running costs through lower energy consumption.
