Through staff, student and parent forums, the Mount Pleasant Road community determined that their new school building was to be a contemporary internal and external learning space which facilitated 21st century pedagogy while being built on a strong sense of community.
The variety of spaces provided throughout the new building allow for a diverse range of learning programmes, both formal and informal, to be explored. Loose furniture, including mobile student lockers, provides flexibility around a core of fixed storage. A central courtyard is integral to the design of the new building, allowing all areas of the school to have a direct connection to the outdoors. The courtyard provides opportunities for outdoor learning with direct access from internal studios and is a passive play and outdoor eating area for students during breaks.
